Rep. Yvette D. Clarke Congratulates Brooklyn Children’s Museum, a 2012 Museum Connect Grantee

BROOKLYN – Representative Yvette D. Clarke is proud to announce that the Brooklyn Children’s Museum was awarded a 2012 Museums Connect grant on Tuesday from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the American Association of Museums.

“The Museum has been an extraordinary resource for children and families for more than a century,” said Representative Clarke, who frequently visited the museum as a child. “I believe the cultural exchange with ImagiNationAfrika will increase the diversity of programs available at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, to the benefit of our community.”

For the past four years, Museum Connect has fostered partnerships between museums in the U.S. and abroad to increase cultural awareness, encourages community collaboration and the exchange of ideas through dialogues.

As one of ten grant recipients, the Brooklyn Children’s Museum will establish a cultural exchange with ImagiNationAfrika, in Senegal, to consider “migration” through the Museums Connect program.

“I have always supported the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, both in Congress, and previously as a member of the New York City Council, because the opportunities offered by this cultural institution will allow children to become active participants in our civil society as adults,” concluded Representative Clarke.
