Brooklyn, NY- Today, Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke released the following statement on the death of Senator Edward M. Kennedy:

“Today, America mourns the death of one of our nation’s greatest statesmen, Senator Edward M. Kennedy. His passing marks the death of a great American Hero. Known as the ‘liberal Lion of the Senate,’ he leaves behind a legacy of political activism that is unmatched.

“He will forever be remembered for his continued fight for civil rights and passion for comprehensive immigration reform. He never lost sight of the well being of the American people and the plight of the middle class.

“I am proud to say that this year, I will join my colleagues in passing comprehensive health care reform, fulfilling Ted Kennedy’s lifelong dream for all Americans to have access to quality health care.

“To the Kennedy family, our hearts and prayers go out to you in this time of mourning. I hope you take comfort in the fact that Senator Kennedy’s work inspired a new generation of leaders. His work has touched the lives of many. Know that he is beloved across the nation and around the world.”
