Rep. Yvette D. Clarke’s Statement on Osama Bin Laden’s Death

Today, Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke released the following statement on the Death of Osama Bin Laden:

“As we come upon the 10 year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the death of Osama Bin Laden marks a historic day of justice for the United States and the rest of the world.  On behalf of the people of the 11th Congressional District of New York, we are grateful to the Obama Administration’s leadership, the U.S. military, CIA intelligence and the counterterrorism professionals who carried out this heroic operation.  I am grateful to hear that no military, CIA or counterterrorism officials were killed.  We celebrate in the fact that this day may bring some solace to the many families affected by the heinous attacks on 9/11.  To those who have lost a family member, loved one or a friend, know that your loss will not be forgotten.  As a representative of one of the most diverse districts in the nation, we must keep in mind that the death of Osama Bin Laden does not represent an attack on Islam but represents a key step in ending terrorism around the world.  As a Member of the House Homeland Security Committee, it is important to point out that we must continue to remain vigilant in keeping our nation safe in the fight against al-Qaeda.  I encourage all people of good will across this nation to unite just as we did the days and weeks following the 9/11 terror attacks.  ”
