Rep. Yvette D. Clarke Applauds President for Renewing the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Treatment Extension Act

Rep. Yvette D. Clarke released the following statement applauding President Barack Obama for renewing the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Treatment Extension Act:

“The Ryan White HIV/AIDS  program  provides care, treatment and support services to nearly half a million people, about half of the total American population that is living with HIV/AIDS.  Without this program, some of our nation’s most vulnerable populations would not receive the care and treatment they need,” stated Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke.

According to the New York City Health Department, ”more than 100,000 New Yorkers are living with HIV ….and HIV is the 3rd leading cause of death below age 65 in New York City.”

On Oct. 21 the House of Representatives passed Ryan White HIV/AIDS Treatment Extension Act with a vote of 408 to 9.

“The Ryan White program enables hundreds of thousands in America to receive aid.  Reauthorizing the Ryan White Act will continue to increase access to primary care and medications by providing additional resources to patients.  The signing of this bill will save lives and help create a healthier America,” concluded Rep. Clarke.
