Rep. Clarke’s Statement on the 48th Anniversary of Trinidad and Tobago’s Independence

Today, Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke released the following statement in honor of the 48th Anniversary of Trinidad and Tobago’s Independence:

“As the representative of one of the most diverse constituencies in the country, it gives me great pleasure to congratulate the people of Trinidad and Tobago on celebrating the 48th Anniversary of their Independence. From the development of Calypso music, to Nobel Laureates, Sir Vidia Naipaul and Derek Walcott, I have seen firsthand how their culture has enriched our nation and the world. I strongly believe that it is important to strengthen our relationship with Caribbean nations who play a vital role in aiding in securing our hemisphere. That is why it is important to recognize Trinidad and Tobago in their leading role among CARICOM nations in the recent launch of the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI). Know that as a daughter of the Caribbean, I will be working to ensure that we continue to bolster our relationship with countries in this region. Again congratulations to Trinidad and Tobago as they celebrate their 48th Anniversary of their Independence.”
