Representative Yvette D. Clarke released the following statement in support of the Senate’s approval of a settlement of almost $4.6 billion to settle long-standing claims by minority farmers:

“Minority farmers have been waiting decades for this to finally pass the Senate. These men and women, who were victims of racial discrimination in the Department of Agriculture’s allocation of loans practices, will now be awarded the settlements they were promised 13 years ago by a federal judge. It is important that we rectify the injustices of our past, and move forward to a prosperous and successful future. I commend the Senate for their passage of this bill, amending a situation that was nearly three decades old.”
