H.R. 2997: “FY ‘10 Agriculture Appropriations Act” assists communities hit hardest by the economic crisis and builds on the success of the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act. The bill provides more than $7.5 billion for low-income mothers and their children to have access to healthy, balanced meals.
“The WIC rolls in Brooklyn have been rising due to the economic downturn.” said Rep. Clarke. “This piece of legislation will directly benefit over 112,000 WIC recipients in Brooklyn who depend on this vital program.”
H.R. 2997 assists struggling families by increasing access to rental assistance programs. This expansion provides funds for debt forgiveness or payment for eligible households, preventing undue burden on families already struggling during these tough economic times.
“Brooklyn’s affordable housing market has been hit hard during this economic crisis.” said Rep. Clarke. “This legislation provides a safety net to struggling families to ensure that they continue to have basic necessities such as food and shelter. I am a proud supporter of the FY ’10 Agriculture Appropriations Act.”
