House Passes Help HAITI Act of 2010

Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 5283, the Help HAITI Act of 2010. This legislation adjusts the status of Haitian orphans who were paroled into the United States following the January earthquake. She released the following statement:

“I was proud to support this important legislation which seeks to protect the most vulnerable population affected by Haiti’s January earthquake, its orphaned children. As we all know, this Caribbean nation continues to endure much suffering as the result of lack of infrastructure, slow recovery efforts, the effects of Hurricane Tomas and the recent cholera outbreak. We need to ensure that the people of Haiti are not forgotten, and that they continue to receive support and aid while they continue to rebuild. We must continue to develop a more aggressive plan of action for Haiti. As the Representative of one of the largest Haitian-American populations in the country, I vow to keep fighting for those who continue to suffer in Haiti.”
