Congresswoman Clarke’s Statement on Delay in Reforming Deportation Procedures
Brooklyn, N.Y. – Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke released the following statement of the delay in an executive order that will remove the threat of deportation for Americans who currently lack legal status
“I am deeply disappointed by the decision to delay an executive order that would have removed the threat of deportation for those Americans who currently lack legal status. The failure of Republicans in the House of Representatives to allow even a debate about comprehensive immigration reform has created an emergency, in which an estimated eleven million persons who are members of our society, are denied the opportunity to become full participants in the life of our communities. I’m astounded by the lack of urgency to address this ongoing humanitarian crisis within our nations borders. We must act to resolve this emergency before any more families are ground up n our broken immigration system and torn apart through the deportation of a parent, a brother or sister, or a child.”
