Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke (NY-11) released the following statement today regarding the death of Ms. Esmin Green:

“First let me state, on behalf of myself and the people of the 11^th congressional district, I extend a heartfelt condolence to the Green family.  Words cannot express how horrific a tragedy your loss is.

It is clear that there was a massive breach in the protocol for patient care at Kings County Hospital with regard to the treatment of Ms. Green.   Let me applaud the quick action taken by hospital administrators with regards to reports that several staff members have been fired following this incident. However, I expect that the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation will move with all deliberate speed to examine the staffing, regulations and protocol as it relates to the care of our most vulnerable patients in the psychiatric ward, known as the G Building at Kings County Hospital. 

Furthermore, it is my fervent hope that the proper and most ethical standard of care is extended to all patients at Kings County and at our medical facilities throughout this nation.”
