Brooklyn, N.Y. – Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke has asked Republicans in the House of Representatives to stop wasting our resources on the continued investigation of the attack on the United States Diplomatic Mission in Benghazi in 2012. Hearings by several Congressional committees have not revealed any instances of misconduct by the Department of State.

With twenty-four of her colleagues in the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Congresswoman Clarke has asked Speaker John A. Boehner to established a Select Committee on Income Inequality rather than spend more than three million dollars on another investigation of the attack in Benghazi.

“The events of September 11, 2012 in Benghazi were a tragedy, in which four men dedicated to public services were killed by members of Al Qaeda. Investigations of the incident have determined that both the Department of State and President Obama’s administration followed every required procedure and properly disclosed accurate information about the attack. Yet many of my Republican colleagues have continued to claim otherwise, and have spent millions of our tax dollars on an investigation without any legitimate purpose,” said Congresswoman Clarke. “We were sent to Congress to represent the interests of the American people who want us to focus on their priorities, such as jobs, income inequality, affordable health care, and comprehensive immigration reform.”

Clarke is a member of the House Committee on Small Business, Ethics, and Homeland Security, where she is the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Protection, and Security Technologies. She represents many neighborhoods in central and southern Brooklyn, NY which include Brownsville, Crown Heights, East Flatbush, Flatbush, Gerritsen Beach, Madison, Midwood, parts of Park Slope and Flatlands, Prospect Heights, Prospect-Lefferts Gardens, Sheepshead Bay, and Windsor Terrace.
