Clarke Statement on Caribbean Heritage Month
BROOKLYN, NY – U.S. Representative Yvette D. Clarke issued the following statement in recognition of Caribbean Heritage Month which started on June 1.
The entire Month of June marks the celebration of Caribbean culture, history, and traditions across the United States.
“Brooklyn, with more than 2.5 million residents, has a vibrant community of people from every nation in the Caribbean region, a community that has contributed towards the diversity and continued development of our city as a global center,” stated Representative Yvette D. Clarke.
“Many of our city’s heroes and heroines can trace their roots to one or more of the Caribbean islands and we are proud to recognize their past and present accomplishments.
“Despite our unique cultures, we share a united vision –comprehensive immigration reform for all. It is an opportune time for this community to become engaged in the discussions on comprehensive immigration reform which is currently being debated within both chambers of Congress. These women, men, and particularly our youth will stand to benefit from the passage of a bill that provides a pathway to legal residency in the U.S. and to citizenship.”
