U.S. Rep. Yvette D. Clarke Takes Oath of Office with the 113th Congress
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Yvette D. Clarke released the following statement after taking the oath of office to represent the new Ninth Congressional District of New York in the 113th Congress.
“I am proud today to have been sworn in to the 113th Congress of the United States. It is truly an honor and a privilege to have been sent by the families of the Ninth Congressional District of New York to represent their interests in Washington,” stated Representative Yvette D. Clarke.
“We have an opportunity to look forward, to end the partisanship that has undermined efforts to secure our future as a nation. The families harmed by Superstorm Sandy-whose homes and businesses were threatened by the storm-have the right to demand action from Congress. We have opportunities in this session of Congress to work together, as Democrats and Republicans, but more importantly, as Americans.
“It is my hope that we address immigration reform, specifically the enactment of the DREAM Act. By providing legal status and a path to citizenship, the DREAM Act will benefit every American. Let us come together in this 113th Congress to fulfill our duties as representatives of the people of the United States. Let us establish the foundations of a prosperity shared by every family in this nation. Let us establish security from the threat of natural disasters and acts of terrorism. Let us establish a political process of which the American people are proud.
“I will continue to fight for the issues that matter to the people of Brooklyn, and to accomplish the important things that Congress has delayed for far too long, from Superstorm Sandy relief to financial stability, immigration reform and job creation,” concluded Representative Clarke.
