Brooklyn NY- Today, Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke released the following statement on the foiled assassination attempt on Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar:

 “I am grateful that top officials in Trinidad and Tobago uncovered an assassination plot against Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar and other top government officials. According to reports, the plot was formed as a result of the ‘state of emergency’ Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar imposed three months ago in response to the rise in violent crime tied to the drug trade. As a member of the House Homeland Security Committee, it is important that we continue to bolster our relations with our neighbors along the third border, particularly as it relates to the drug trade. Again I am grateful that this assassination plot was foiled and I encourage security officials in Trinidad and Tobago to remain vigilant.”
