Rep. Clarke’s statement on TSA’s New Airport Enhanced Security Screening Regulations
U.S. Rep. Yvette D. Clarke released the following statement about the new enhanced security screening measures put in place by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA):
“As we head into the holiday season there has been a lot of concern regarding new airport security screening measures recently put in place by the TSA. I am glad that we, as a nation, are able to engage in rational and informed debate over important issues that affect American’s nationwide. I understand the privacy concerns that people have over the newly implemented procedures, as I hold many of the same concerns. However, I will continue to monitor the situation with the TSA. I applaud the TSA Administrator, John S. Pistole, for deciding to review the process and assess how to ‘…strike the right balance between privacy and security.’”
“Unfortunately, transportation security threats are a looming reality that our nation and global community are forced to face. As the only New York City Member on the House Committee on Homeland Security, my priority is ensuring that are nation utilizes all the tools necessary to keep our residents secure. During this period of increased travel it is important that we keep people safe. Please note I will continue monitoring how TSA implements its airport screening security measures in the near future. ”
