Rep. Clarke Participates In Gang Violence Hearing

U.S. Representative Yvette D. Clarke (NY-11), member of the House Education and Labor Committee will participate in a field hearing to discuss gang violence and recruitment prevention methods.  The hearing will be hosted by Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, Chairwoman of the subcommittee on Healthy Families and Communities.

 

“Gang violence is an issue that continues to divide families and rob the community of our most valuable assets – our youth,” stated Rep. Yvette D. Clarke.  “I look forward to working with Rep. McCarthy and my colleagues on the Healthy Families and Communities subcommittee as we seek to provide positive alternatives for young people.”  

 

The hearing entitled, “Protecting Our Youth:  Paths to Gang Prevention in Our Communities,” will be held on Monday, June 4, 2007, 10am – 12pm, at Freeport Village Hall, 46 N. Ocean Avenue, Freeport, NY  11520.  This hearing is the first Federal hearing held on Long Island, and will include testimony from residents and juvenile justice experts.  Brooklyn’s own Isis Grant-Sapp, Founder and Executive Director of Youth Empowerment Mission, Inc. is among the witnesses scheduled to testify about gang violence.
