Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke’s Statement on the Passing of Dr. Ronald W. Walters

Today, Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke released the following statement on the passing of Dr. Ronald W. Walters:

“Today I extend my condolences to the family of Dr. Ronald Walters, an influential scholar and well respected political figure in our nation. His political analysis and insight on public policy, civil rights and race were well sought after. His scholarly work and sound advice have assisted many members of the Congressional Black Caucus, and other African American political and civic leaders around the country.

“Dr. Walters was a longtime professor of political science at Howard University and the University of Maryland. He chaired the African and Afro-American Studies Department at Brandeis University and served as a campaign manager and consultant for the Reverend Jesse Jackson during his two presidential bids. He also was the close policy adviser for former Congressmen Charles Diggs and William Gray.

“Professor Walters will be greatly missed and his influence in the political arena was undeniable. Again my thoughts and prayers go out to the Walters family as they mourn his passing.”
