WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke (NY-09) released the following statement about the S. 1094 – Department of Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act of 2017:

“Today, I voted against S. 1094, Department of Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act of 2017.

“The bill, while supported by the Veterans committee, is opposed by many unions including the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) and the AFL-CIO.

“I am deeply concerned that S. 1094 will erode and ultimately eliminate protections for Veterans Administration workers including due process rights, collective bargaining protections, and continues to scapegoat the federal workforce in a highly challenged workplace environment.

“I believe that sets a dangerous precedent with regard to dedicated federal employees who faithfully serve our nation every day.”
