Washington, DC – Yesterday, thousands of mourners gathered to honor the life of New York City Police Officer Peter Figoski, who was killed in the line of duty.  Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke released the following statement:

“On behalf of the people of the 11th Congressional District of New York, I offer my condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Police Officer Peter Figoski, particularly his four beautiful daughters.  By all accounts, Officer Figoski was an exemplary officer who was dedicated to his profession and the people he was sworn to serve and protect.  This twenty-two year veteran of the NYPD gave his life in fulfillment of his honor bound duty to keep New Yorkers and Brooklynites safe every day.  Unfortunately, this horrific incident serves as a reminder of the ultimate sacrifices made by many of our dedicated officers of the NYPD and the ongoing battle to stem the flow of illegal handguns into our city.  The thoughts and prayers of the entire community are with officer Figoski’s family and friends at this very difficult time.  May he rest in peace indeed.”
