Congresswoman Clarke Statement on the Shutdown of our Federal Government
Representative Yvette D. Clarke issued the following statement about the shutdown of our federal government.
“I am deeply disappointed that Congress has failed to enact a continuing resolution to avoid a shutdown of our government. This failure – which was entirely the result of the insistence by the Republican majority in the House of Representatives that President Obama delay the Affordable Care Act – will have real consequences for American families,” said Representative Clarke.
The consequences of a shutdown include: delayed paychecks for almost one and a half million active-duty military personnel, the closure of our national parks and museums, and delays in the processing of applications to federal agencies.
Representative Clarke continued: “I remain committed to finding a resolution to this unnecessary crisis as soon as possible, so that we can continue to focus on the recovery of our economy and on the real priorities of our nation: good jobs with benefits, comprehensive immigration reform, and the implementation of the Affordable Care Act.”
