Congresswoman Clarke’s Statement on the Anti-Semitic Flyers in the Ukraine

Brooklyn, N.Y. – Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke released the following statement on the distribution of anti-Semitic flyers in Donetsk, Ukraine.

“On behalf of the people of the Ninth Congressional District of New York, I condemn those responsible for the anti-Semitic flyers that have been circulating in Ukraine. The distribution of flyers ordering Jewish people in Donetsk, Ukraine to register with the authorities recalls the worst in our world history, when in the Twentieth Century similar requirements were imposed in many parts of world to strip women and men of their dignity and individuals of their rights as full citizens within society. Indeed, history has recorded such action as a precursor to unspeakable human atrocities.  We cannot permit this type of rhetoric to take hold in the Twenty-First Century. I urge President Obama and Secretary of State Kerry to maintain vigilance in monitoring the situation in the Ukraine and to do everything in our authority to preempt any attempts by those who would exploit the political turmoil in region from escalating towards the unspeakable horrors of the past.”
