Congresswoman Clarke Applauds Health Insurance Marketplace Enrollment

Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke applauded the announcement by the Department of Health and Human Services that 106,000 people have selected health insurance plans with the health care marketplaces established under the Affordable Care Act, and another 975,407 people have completed the application process and now have the opportunity to select a plan.

“Despite some difficulties in the application process, the marketplaces have started to function. Today, families and children in every state have choices for comprehensive health insurance at an affordable price – choices that were previously unavailable to millions of Americans,” said Congresswoman Clarke.

In addition, HHS announced that 396,261 people have applied for insurance through the marketplaces have been approved for coverage through Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program.

Congresswoman Clarke continued: “Already, more than half a million people will have health insurance as a result of the Affordable Care Act, and the number of people who have completed applications indicates that even more people are interested. I believe that, as the website improves and more people learn about the insurance plans available, we will exceed our expectations for enrollment in health insurance.”
