WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke (NY-09) released the following statement regarding the Biden-Harris Administration’s announcement that it has secured voluntary commitments from seven leading artificial intelligence companies to manage the risks posed by AI:

“I applaud the Administration for securing commitments from some of our nation’s leading AI companies for voluntary safeguards aimed at reducing bias, mitigating national security risks, and protecting the rights, information, and safety of the American people. With an emphasis on safety, security, and trust, I believe today marks a strong first step in ensuring that we do not hinder innovation while also encouraging safeguards for the betterment of society,” said Congresswoman Clarke.

“In the coming months, I plan on reintroducing the Algorithmic Accountability Act, which would require companies to assess the impacts of the automated systems they use and sell, and the DEEPFAKES Accountability Act, which would require a digital watermark on all AI-generated images and videos. As Congress continues to discuss ways to create a regulatory framework for AI, I look forward to working with my colleagues in the House and Senate to ensure we require accountability and transparency to protect families, workers, and our democratic values.”
