Clarke Out Front on Infrastructure Stimulus Plan
This bill is part two of the economic stimulus and provides $60.8 billion for programs intended to help stimulate job creation and job creation and economic growth. The bill passed the House with a vote of 264 to 158.
On February 13, 2008, Rep. Clarke addressed the House Floor during the 30 Something Working Group Session encouraging her colleagues to expand upon the stimulus to keep the relief coming in the form of infrastructure investment.
“In February I stated that the economic stimulus rebate was a short term solution and our nation needs something more substantial,” stated asked that Congress not put a band-aid where major surgery is needed,” said Rep. Clarke. “I specifically asked that we address the infrastructure problems in our country including the needed repairs to our schools, wastewater systems and transportation systems, which would also create jobs.”
“That day has finally come and I am excited to be a part of the solution. Today Congress will heed my words of advice and focus on long term solutions that have a direct impact on communities across the nation. I applaud the Democratic Leadership on their commitment to long term solutions that strengthen our communities.”
