CLARKE DECRIES ISLAMOPHOBIC FLIERS SURFACING ON SOCIAL MEDIA  

Brooklyn, N.Y. – Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke (NY-09) released the following statement in regards to “Punish A Muslim Day” flier that has surfaced on social media, encouraging violence against Muslims on April 3^rd 2018.

“I am deeply disturbed by the flier that has surfaced on social media claiming April 3^rd, 2018 to be ‘Punish a Muslim Day’. This is an act of hate fueled by xenophobia and islamophobia. This propaganda is blatant discrimination based solely upon one’s religion that we must denounce. Encouraging violence against the Muslim community is dangerous and contradictory to our American values, and tears away at the fabric of what makes our nation a beacon of hope and justice unto the world.

“I am proud to serve a large Muslim population in the Ninth Congressional District. They are hardworking, patriotic Americans, who contribute to our culture and make our communities diverse and vibrant. Any act of violence towards this community must not be tolerated. April 3^rd is not “Punish A Muslim” day, there will be no such day.

“I am encouraging the Muslim community in the Ninth Congressional District and communities across our country to be vigilant. If you are in any danger please contact your local law enforcement and please feel free to reach out to my office with your concerns.”
