Washington, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke (NY-09) issued the following statement celebrating the passage of H.R. 5378, the Lower Costs, More Transparency Act:

“Earlier this year, I introduced the bipartisan bill, H.R. 2665, the Supporting Safety Net Hospitals Act, to amend Title XIX of the Social Security Act to eliminate pending cuts to Medicaid Disproportionate Share Hospital (DSH) payments. Medicaid DSH payments are a lifeline for the safety net hospitals that care for the low-income and the sickest patients in our health care system. And as hospitals continue to struggle through the lingering impacts from COVID-19, this is one financial burden many hospitals should not need to contend with at this time.

“With the inclusion of this measure in the newly House-passed bill, the Lower Costs, More Transparency Act, many of my constituents in Brooklyn and millions of Americans nationwide will be able to continue to rely on these facilities for their most fundamental health care needs.”
