Washington, D.C. — Today, Congressional Black Caucus Foreign Affairs & Immigration Task Force co-chair Representative Yvette D. Clarke issued the following statement on President Biden’s executive actions related to asylum:

“President Biden’s executive action to close daily border crossings arbitrarily at 2,500 will prevent countless Black immigrants from the Caribbean, the African continent, and Latin America from exercising their legal right to apply for asylum at our ports of entry. We should move toward a more nuanced approach that considers the real humanitarian issues that migrants are facing each day. We urge the Biden-Harris Administration to prioritize efforts to address the root causes of migration and expand pathways for legal migration for people who are fleeing violence and persecution and who are seeking a better life.”
