Congresswoman Clarke’s Statement on New York State of Health Enrollment
Brooklyn, N.Y. – Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke released the following statement on a report this week from the state’s health insurance marketplace, New York State of Health, detailing information on enrollee demographics. The marketplace has enrolled 960,762 New Yorkers, almost one million people, eighty percent of whom had previously been uninsured.
“New York State of Health has allowed hundreds of thousands of families to obtain critical health care services at an affordable rate. I commend the state officials who worked to support enrollment in the marketplace, which has already reduced costs and provided better access,” said Congresswoman Clarke. “The enrollment of nearly one million people in New York State, with the majority being younger adults, demonstrates the long term stability of the health insurance marketplace for the State.”
Of those individuals who purchased a New York State of Health Qualified Health Plan from the state insurance marketplace, thirty-one percent were between the ages of 18 and 34. This was the highest enrollee age demographic in the state’s marketplace. Individuals aged 35 to 44 years old comprised eighteen percent of total enrollees.
