WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke (NY-09), senior member of the House Committee on Homeland Security and the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, released the following statement following reports that the Biden Administration is considering a national ban on TikTok:

“It is time TikTok recognizes the difficult position they have put U.S. lawmakers in. To this point, there has not been enough trust built between Bytedance and the U.S. government. Bytedance has been given ample opportunity to ensure their platform would be as safe as it is fun, and they have not lived up to that commitment,” said Congresswoman Clarke.

“Now, Congress must do what TikTok has not and protect Americans’ data from landing in the hands of our adversaries. I look forward to asking tough and fair questions to TikTok’s CEO, Shou Zi Chew, during next week’s Energy & Commerce hearing that will hopefully shed some light on efforts beyond Project Texas to protect the American people and American national security.”
