Brooklyn, N.Y. – Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke released the following statement in celebration of Black History Month, a time to honor the many contributions of American Americans to the United States.  

“During the Month of February, we remember the great works of African Americans, who as civil rights activists called this nation to its conscience in their effort to fulfill the promise of equality in our Declaration of Independence, who as inventors pursued achievements in science, mathematics, and engineering that have improved the quality of life we enjoy today, and who as authors, painters, musicians, and choreographers have created works of art that define the culture of the United States.  As we celebrate Black History Month, let us also focus our attention on the future, and to affirm our shared commitment to creating a civil society in which the rights to which all American are entitled – such as the right to vote, the right to participate in our nation’s prosperity, and the right to all the privileges and immunities of citizenship – are protect by law.”

U.S. Representative Yvette D. Clarke is a member of the House Committee on Small Business, Ethics, and Homeland Security, where she is the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Protection, and Security Technologies. She represents many neighborhoods in central and southern Brooklyn, NY which include Brownsville, Crown Heights, East Flatbush, Flatbush, Gerritsen Beach, Madison, Midwood, parts of Park Slope and Flatlands, Prospect Heights, Prospect-Lefferts Gardens, Sheepshead Bay, and Windsor Terrace.
