Congresswoman Clarke Celebrates the Start of Open Enrollment
Brooklyn, N.Y. – Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke released the following statement to celebrate open enrollment in New York State of Health and other health care exchanges established under the Affordable Care Act, from November 1, 2015 to January 31, 2016.
“Residents of New York State have the ability to choose a comprehensive health insurance plan at a reasonable cost from New York State of Health. There are now more than two million people who have already enrolled in health insurance plans or in Medicaid with New York State of Health, and many other people now have health insurance because children have the ability to keep the health insurance their parents have until twenty-six years-of-age and insurance companies cannot prevent individuals with pre-existing conditions from enrolling in a comprehensive plan. But many people still need health insurance. I encourage everyone – even if you are already enrolled in a plan – to consider the many choices available, as switching to a different plan has the potential to reduce costs for you and your family,” said Congresswoman Clarke, who was an original co-sponsor of the Affordable Care Act.
Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke, a member of the Committee on Energy and Commerce, the Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade, the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, and the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, the Committee on Ethics and the Committee of Small Business in the House of Representatives, proudly represents Brownsville, Crown Heights, East Flatbush, Flatbush, Gerritsen Beach, Madison, Midwood, Park Slope, Flatlands, Prospect Heights, Prospect-Lefferts Gardens, Sheepshead Bay, and Windsor Terrace.
