Congresswoman Clarke Celebrates the One Hundred Fourth Anniversary of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Brooklyn, N.Y. – Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke released the following statement to commemorate the One Hundred Fourth Anniversary of the founding of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., an international sorority of which she is a member:

“I am proud to be a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., an institution of high purpose and considerable distinction which, since it was established by twenty-two collegiate women at Howard University on January 13, 1913, has expanded to include over 300,000 members in more than 1,000 chapters. The organization has always been defined by the contributions of its members, who include civil rights activist Dorothy Height, renowned actress Ruby Dee, Professor Melissa Harris Perry, former Congresswoman Barbara Jordan, my esteemed predecessor in the House of Representatives, the Honorable Shirley Chisholm and my esteemed colleagues, the Honorable Marcia L. Fudge, former National President and former Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, the Honorable Joyce Beatty, the Honorable Brenda Lawrence, the Honorable Val Demings. It is an honor to share in their legacy of service to our civil society. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. continues to support the aspirations of women around the world who want to develop their capacity for leadership and public service. Happy Founders Day to all of the members of Delta Sigma Theta and best wishes for one hundred four more years of success!”
