Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke Remembers 9-11
“As our nation pauses to reflect the life and legacy of the shereos and heroes, whose lives were tragically altered or cut short as a result of the violent attacks on 9-11-01; I am humbled at the opportunity to share my sentiments with others as we pay homage to the memory of those who perished and celebrate the lives of those who remain. We will never forget that almost 3,000 lives were lost, including 343 firefighters and 23 police officers, on that day. Their contributions and legacies will forever be honored and revered.
I salute the many workers who may not have held a corner office with their names on the door, but were an integral part of our thriving economy and communities. I honor the memory of those who trace their heritage to other nations representing the four corners of the world that made contributions which make this nation vibrant.
I also pay tribute to the survivors, workers, students and other members of our communities whose lives are forever changed as a result of those events. Today, the contributions of all these individuals remind us that our national strength and resiliency lies within our diverse racial and ethnic composition.
As a vocal co-sponsor of the Maloney-Nadler-Fossella 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, I will continue to push to ensure that this legislation, which establishes programs to monitor and treat everyone exposed to the dangerous toxins found at Ground Zero, is passed and implemented. This legislation honors those who survived the attacks, as well as those who perished, by ensuring that we as a nation do all we can for those who continue to pay the price for liberty and justice.”
Please know that my continued prayers go out both to the families that suffered the loss of loved ones and to the families of those who survived. I pray that in some small way that we remember their sacrifice each and every day.”
