Rep. Yvette D. Clarke’s Statement on the Second House Short-Term Resolution Funding the Government
Today, with a vote of 271 to 158, the House of Representatives passed its H.J. Res 48, a short term continuing resolution which funds the government until April 8. Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke released the following statement expressing her opposition to this piece of legislation:
“It is irresponsible for this Republican lead Congress to keep funding the government in two or three week increments. Instead of working on a way to balance our budget and invest in our nation’s economy, this Republican lead Congress has decided to defund critical programs that create jobs.
“I cannot in good conscious support legislation that cuts programs that help our most vulnerable populations. It is time to pass a long-term resolution that bolsters our nation’s education system, strengthens our social services, and creates jobs. I am confident that our nation can out-innovate, out-educate, and out-build the rest of the world and at the same time, reduce our deficit.”
