WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Yvette D. Clarke issued the following statement as the nation celebrates the second inauguration of President Barack H. Obama and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

 “Today is another symbolic moment in our nation’s history as Americans witness the legacies of past, present, and future. President Obama’s inaugural address echoed a call of action for all Americans to work together in order for our nation to move forward,” stated Representative Yvette D. Clarke.

 “We are indeed ‘one nation and one people.’ Let us never forget the adversities we have overcome as a nation and put aside our differences to build a better society for future generations. We have the responsibility to set the example and to honor the dream of the late Dr. King.      

 “I look forward to working alongside the Obama administration, my colleagues in Congress, and my fellow Americans to address our nation’s priorities – climate change, gun control, healthcare, strengthening our economy, education and immigration reform,” concluded Representative Clarke.
