WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke issued the following statement:

“Two years have passed since Hamas’ horrific crime on October 7th, 2023, when more than 1,200 innocent people were killed and hundreds more were taken into brutal captivity. I mourn with all those whose loved ones were stolen on that dark day, just as I grieve for the countless Palestinians and Israelis who have been lost to the terrible war that followed in its wake.

“The ceaseless stream of tragedy this conflict has brought to our world must end. It must end for the innocent men, women, and children living on the ground in Gaza who have known only devastation for two years. It must end for our Jewish and Muslim neighbors, whose pain in a diverse community like my own is indescribable and inescapable. It must end, so the dream of a just and necessary two-state solution can continue.

“On today’s solemn anniversary, I pray my call for an enduring ceasefire that centers the human dignity of all peoples, Palestinian and Israeli alike, is heard by those with the power to secure it. May we find a path forward that stops the suffering in Gaza, returns the hostages to their families, and creates space for a lasting peace. And may we never fail to remember and honor all those we lost two years ago, today.”
